Summary/Abstract: In twentieth-century prose, one can observe writers' interest in innovating narrative techniques, thus asserting their artistic individuality. The various roles of the narrator highlight the characters and their issues. After several decades in which prose writers explored diverse narrative possibilities, recent literature shows a tendency to rediscover classical narrative forms associated with techniques borrowed from drama or cinematic art.
