Summary/Abstract: The article presents the myth as a source of creation in the literary work of Nicoale Dabija, writer of Romanian expression from the left side of Prut river, leader of the 70s generation in the last century, who has a great contribution to the rehabilitation of aesthetics in an era of ideological doctrine, by escaping from real time into myth. An analysis is made of the concept of the mythical, as it appears in the studies of well-known authors from Romania, the Republic of Moldova and France, its roles and the transfer of meanings to the pattern of the society in which it enters. In the interaction between myth and creation there is a mutual influence. The myth of Greco-Roman antiquity serves the needs of the writer in the present time, it can change social relations, and the writer reveals new accents in the known myths, transforming and updating them. Nicolae Dabija's need to escape from the reality that restricted the poet's freedom of expression into one where imagination is the transforming source, by accessing mythical images, is a cause of the frequent presence of mythical themes and motifs in the author's literary writings. Important part of the study analyzes the meanings of the numerous mythological images that merge with poetic expressions with great artistic force in the author's literary works, written in verse and in prose ("Third Eye", "In the footsteps of Orpheus", "Homer", "Poetry", Orpheus" etc.).
