HOUSEHOLD STRUCTURE IN WARSAW AND LVIV IN THE MID-SEVENTEENTH CENTURY. THE IMPACT OF INDIVIDUAL SOCIAL AND MATERIAL POSITION

Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to analyse the composition of house- holds in two large cities of the Commonwealth in the mid-seventeenth century: Warsaw and Lviv. Two poll tax registers – from 1658 and 1662 – were used for this purpose. The research confirmed a close relationship between the wealth of goodmen and the size and structure of their households. The information thus collected was also confronted with the results of studies from other urban centres of the Commonwealth.
