Summary/Abstract: Through this research paper I present a brief overview for such a wide scope like; the basic principles of preserving and storing of archival material, the role of the archivist, conditions of preservation of social memory, written documents, etc. The archival material that is stored in the archives is a memory of time and it has the capacity of a cultural and historical monument, hence special care must be taken to preserve and store it in archival institutions. Archives as means of information play important tasks in society and this is why there are basic principles for the technical preserving of archival material where the written source treasure is stored and preserved. The archive warehouse is a place storage for archival funds where the reception, collection, recording, systematization, storage and use of documents are done, therefore there must be standards and conditions for the preserving of archival material from various pests. I also present a description of the professional duties of the archivist, based on the archival code and relevant legislation, including the role of the Archive in Kosovo Police as an important institution of the security of the country, that has advanced its archive and became a model for other institutions.
