Summary/Abstract: Among the historical buildings from Aiud, Alba county, included on the Romanian cultural heritage list, there are a group of buildings that form the „Betlen Gabor” College. The high education intitution was established in 1622 in Alba Iulia. In 1662 it was relocated in Aiud. The four buildings that form the College today were built between 1720-1887. The conservation works and the restoration programme included archeological surveillance. The archaeological excavation during 2012 resulted in astouning and complex wall structures finds, as well as other archaeological finds dated late Middle Age and Modern Age. Among the discoveries there were: foundation walls, two cellars and a floor arrangement from a building dated before the middle of the 17th century. There were revealed portions of fondations of a set of builings arranged in a square shape. They were built between 1720-1743. The buildings were provided with cellar on the southern section and a tower placed on the middle of the western section. There were also revealed sections of a sewer sistem made up of brick vaulted structures. A number of four complexes have been identified: 3 household pits bellonging to the urban housing contemporan to the building dated before the middle of the 17th century and a lime pit associated to the construction period of the latest buildings of the College. The archeological finds were chronological framed between 16th-19th centuries.
