Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the following article is to compare and contrast the literary modes of representation of the First World War shell shock in the poetry of soldier-poets and in the prose of women writers. The war trauma called “shell shock” had a profound impact on British literature and the common memory of the Great World. At the time, the poets who were soldiers expressed their traumatic experiences in their works. Meanwhile, women authors who observed veterans suffering from trauma explored the causes and effects of shell shock in their prose.
