Summary/Abstract: The author of the paper discusses the issue of Italian influences in Jan Kochanowski’s output in thelight of his youthful stays in the Republic of Venice, and a possible impact of the books with whichhe acquainted at that time. Niccolò Franco’s La Priapea (1541), a pornographic-satirical cycle of sonnetsissued a dozen or so years before Kochanowski’s arrival, could have been one of them. In the trifle III 82Do dziewki (To a Maid) Franco’s collection most probably completes the Anacreontic pattern (an el-derly suitor’s love’s labours to a young maid in the first stanza) and develops it into a firmly obscene(phallic, in verses 2–3) direction, while ceasing to wipe out the elements traditionally linked withKochanowski’s home culture.
