Summary/Abstract: The death of Henryk Sienkiewicz had a huge impact on the Polish society. His compatriots as well as foreigners paid their last respects to the Nobel-winning novelist. The article shows how the image of the writer was depicted in the funeral literature. It also analyses the funeral speeches given in 1924 on the occasion of moving the writer’s ashes from Switzerland, where he died, to Poland and the lamentation poetry dedicated to the world-famous author of “Quo Vadis”.
