Summary/Abstract: 1. Polymath Nikolai Rainov is an emblematic figure in Bulgarian cultural life of the early twentieth century; 2. The painter N. Rainov as continuation of the writer or about the interrelations between arts; 3. The short novel The Prince and the Plague as a narrative/image synthesis in the context of the late Art Nouveau; 4. The Prince and the Plague, an ingenious aesthetical experiment: the diabolic prose in the Bulgarian literature and fine arts and the cult of mystical phenomena in post-modern culture; 5.
