Summary/Abstract: Public administration plays a special and very responsible role in the process of state defense pre- parations, understood as "a process implemented by all entities of the state defense (security) sys- tem, covering all planning, organizational, material and financial undertakings aimed at preparing forces, means and methods ( procedures) of the activities of these entities to ensure the survival of the state and its citizens in the event of an external security threat and during war" [1]. It should be emphasized that government administration and local government bodies are responsible, di- rectly or indirectly, for the state's defense preparations carried out in all its areas.Public administration should be well prepared to carry out defense tasks both in times of peace and in times of political and military crisis. The above-mentioned defense tasks, resulting from the need to ensure state security, affect the entire system of defense preparations. Among the entities orga- nizing and performing these tasks, public administration bodies play the main role. The content presented in this article is the result of the author's research on selected problems of planning and implementing defense tasks in public administration. Taking into account the nature of the problem, it should be remembered that the state's defense preparations constitute a vast interdisciplinary area of knowledge. Therefore, the author had to accept certain limitations related to the title of the study, which consequently led to the selection of specific priorities. This allowed for the preparation of a thematically coherent study of a cognitive and scientific nature, which the author allows himself to recommend to readers.
