Summary/Abstract: The author considers the works of Manuela Gretkowska after the year 2000. He distinguishes three separate genres in Gretkowska’s output: autobiographical writings (texts centred around Gretkowska’s own biography, private and intimate issues), fiction and press column. Polka, Europejka and Obywatelka (Polish Woman, European Woman and Citizen respectively) is a trilogy in which daily life is described in a simple anecdotal, or silva rerum, style, without stylistic flamboyance or specific fictional devices. Gretkowska’s press columns, on the other hand, are written in a different convention, with the author making use of paradox, irony, sarcasm or even provocation. Concluding his analysis, the author gives his reasons for appreciating Greatkowska’s works, especially when compared with younger generation of writers, who mostly aim at shocking their readers and prioritise stylistic and linguistic embellishments over intellectual merits of a literary work.
