Keywords: children's literature; genre; evolution; poetry; fable;
Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to describe the genre evolution – from Aesop’s fable to children epic poetry. Under the term of children epic poetry the author classifies all epic forms addressed to children, both in verse and in prose, based on the animal fable schema. Using numerous examples from the European literature, from ancient times until modernity, Ryszard Waksmund shows the presence of certain motifs, plot patterns originating from Aesop’s fables. It allows the author of the article to corroborate the existence of so-called children epic poetry as a new genre.
