Relationships between resilience and competitiveness on the example of the Western Transdanubia, 1960–2020

Summary/Abstract: In the international literature describing the interpretation and models of resi-lience and competitiveness, it is chal-lenging to find a complex answer to the relationship between the two variables. However, a region's flexibility, adaptabi-lity, and competitiveness have an impact on the region's economic, social, and so-cietal situation. The objective of the re-search is to examine relationships bet-ween resilience and competitiveness at the regional and county levels using the Western Transdanubian region as an example over a representative, long-term time horizon of 60 years. The new-ly developed methodology proved su-itable for identifying and examining the factors influencing resilience and cre-ating a complex resilience index. In addi-tion, the author proposes a novel approach to examining competitiveness, presenting the relationships between resilience and competitiveness, deter-mining the correlations and principal components among resilience factors, and identifying the aspects with the gre-atest relevance.
