Summary/Abstract: Introduction:Many older adults have low health literacy, defined as the degree to which people are able toaccess, understand, appraise and communicate information to engage with the demands ofdifferent health contexts to promote and maintain health across the life-course. Low healthliteracy among older adults is associated with various undesirable health outcomes likepoorer self-rated health and higher mortality. It may also affect older adults’ ability to benefitoptimally from healthcare services, in which patients are nowadays expected participateactively.Aim of the paper:The main aim of the presented work was to evaluate research on health competences of olderpeople published in English language between 2010 and 2020.Material and methods:A systematic search for research studies from 2010 to 2020 was conducted in on medicineand related sciences such as PubMed and EBSCO databases.Conclusions:The results of this review emphasize that the level of health literacy among older peopleis still low, which negatively affects their physical, mental and social health. Moreover theobtained results indicate certain systemic activities in the field of health education thatshould be undertaken to prevention of low health c of older.
