Summary/Abstract: The present study repeats the analysis published more than 10 years ago by the authors, showing the changes of the last 20 years in terms of the situation and processes of the large cities of Hungary and their catchment areas. It has been determined that the strengthening of catchment area relations can increase the income per inhabitant. We have shown that in terms of development state and progress, large cities and their catchment areas are in fundamentally different situations, the same being true in terms of competitiveness. Finally, the authors grouped the urban areas on ba-sis of territorial differences and the situ-ation and changes in spatial dependence, seeking to quantify the chance of hori-zontal connections in relation to the cen-tre and catchment area.
