Summary/Abstract: As a scientific discipline closely tied to human life, theology requiresa continual reassessment of its mission in the contemporary world. Among itsfundamental tasks is the consideration of the ongoing intersection, partial inter-penetration, conditioning, and complementarity of faith and reason. This ap-proach aligns with the Churchʼs teaching, which emphasizes the scientific sta-tus of theology. This article seeks to demonstrate that at the core of sound theological re-search is a proper understanding of the relationship between reason and faith.Reference was made primarily to John Paul IIʼs encyclical Fides et ratio.Based on a reinterpretation of this document, an attempt was made to show themission of theology in the modern world. Reference to the documents of theChurch, the teaching of the popes and the literature on the subject were alsoconsidered important. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary andtransdisciplinary research. Significant attention is devoted to the pursuit ofTruth. In this context, issues about theological anthropology, which plays acrucial role in various aspects of social life (e.g., evangelization, education, upbringing, catechesis, media, politics), are analyzed. Contextual studies thatconsider the lives of individuals, social groups, and Christian communities arealso deemed important. Furthermore, the challenges posed by theologyʼs pres-ence in the realm of new information and communication technologies arehighlighted. In light of these challenges, there is a recognized need to integrateresearch endeavors with the theologianʼs relationship with God and involve-ment in the Church community.
