MOSKITT platform in the development of information systems as an implementation of the "Model driven architecture" paradigm

Summary/Abstract: Modeling Software Kitt (MOSKitt) is a free framework for software development that implements the Model Driven Architecture (MDA) guidelines. At the center of the MDA approach are models. Creating the software means creating the model that represents the information system being developed. The implementation in a specific underlying technology is obtained through model transformations. The MDA approach to developing information systems takes the software development process to higher level of abstractions by further simplifying it. Through the development of an information system that automates a business process in modern companies the capabilities of the MOSKitt framework will be presented. The business process analyzed is the user access management flow that employees within the company follow in order to gain access into business applications. The developer will create an UML model that models the business process. From this model a semiautomatic OpenXava application is generated in almost zero time, including the automatic generation of the presentation layer (AJAX user interface) and data persistence layer (database). The strength/ benefits of the approach will be clarified as well as presenting the limitations in the current state of the technology.
