Summary/Abstract: Beside his normal administrative duties, Vukašin Radišić, Secretary of the Serb diplomatic delegation in Istanbul, also collaborated with theMinistry of ForeignAffairs in observing the activities of JovanAntić, Serb kapućehaja in Istanbul. For this secret mission, Radišić wrote to the Minister of the ForeignAffairs in Belgrade, Đorđe Protić, while in stanbl he relied on other collaborators and clerks employed by the kapućehaja, dragoman, capiolan Bert, andmerchant SimaAndrejević Igumanov. In 15 edited letters, written between 29 January and 1 July 1842, Radišič informedMinister Protić about all official and private actions of the kapućehajaAntić, which could be interpreted as activities contrary to the interests of the Serb state, or disloyalty to the Obrenović dynasty. Serb diplomatic representatives in Istanbul listened to the news of turmoil in Serbia, and were keen to react to ny data that could link the kapućehaja with political personalities, such as Avram Petronijević, or Toma Vučić Perišić. However, most of the proofs presented about Antić's «intriguing» activities, related to his efforts to financially secure himself through increased costs or withholding taxes, dereliction of official duties, expression of personal displeasure with his salary, lack of respect and rank, or remarks directed against representatives of the Serbian government, and the like.
