European experience in determining the less advanced mountain areas: the application in Albanian context

Summary/Abstract: Mountainous areas have great social, economic, cultural and invironmental significance for the country. In these conditions, the Albanian politics face a number of challenges related to increasing social cohesion and competitveness of these areas. To achieve this goal, specific policies should be taken. Also, should be used as soon as possible all political instruments and support mechanisms for the operation of resources and accelerating the pace of development of maintainous and less-favored areas. In this context, we have much to learn from the community of European nations where we want to go quickly. Almos all European countries have policies, technical and financial instruments to support the mountain and less-favored areas to increase social cohesion.
