Summary/Abstract: This paper explains the role of Foreign Direct Investment for the South European Countries, focusing on the importance of institutional infrastructure and governance for promoting growth in transition countries and for attracting foreign investments. In the paper I use dynamic panel data to examine the determinants of foreign investments in SEE, during 1992-2009, using GMM estimation. The empirical model shows the importance of the quality of the institutions and the role of the privatization process in these countries, examining also the traditional determinants for the attraction of FDI.
