Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the concept of “device”, that appliesto all the objects built by humans, by using different materials, assembled according to a givenplan (project or sketch) that is permanently updated. The devices are objects used to perform establishedoperations or actions.The paper explores the hypothesis that humans understand the world following the pattern of devicesthat they build. The world shows itself as an immense device, whose planning, assemblingand functioning are only partially understood. The components of the world are considered to beparts, i.e. elements that cannot be dismounted without being destroyed.
