Summary/Abstract: This pa-per explores the Romanian Marxist-Leninist literature concerning the philosophical contribution of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, especially in the field of philosophy of science. Three collections of studies and articles are considered. The oldest dates from 1959 (when the Academy of Sciences of Romanian Popular Republic organized festivities on the fiftieth anniversary of Leninʼs Mate-rialism and Empirio-criticism publication, trying to emphasizing the decisive intervention of Lenin against physical idealism), and the other two from 1970 (when Lenin himself was cele-brated in Romania on the centenary of his birth. This time, the contributors’ effort was concen-trated for a different purpose: the renewal of Leninist doctrine). At the beginning, the Romanian editions of the two books by Lenin are summarized: Materialism and Empirio-criticism (Roma-nian version, 1948) and Philosophical Notebooks (Romanian edition, 1956). Then, a Soviet book, authored by F.T. Arhiptsev (1957, Romanian version: 1959), which explains the material-ist-dialectical concept of matter, is presented, too. I argue that this type of Soviet books served as models for the Romanian imitations. The investigation suggests (but does not conclude) that Lenin as philosopher and scientist was a deliberate construction of the Communist Party, with a specific purpose: the supremacy over sci-entists and humanists.
