Summary/Abstract: The article is a biographical medallion of Václav Lamser, a significant figure in Czech sociology, whose centenary falls on June 24, 2024. Born into a religious family, his faith remained a lifelong influence. Despite the challenges of political upheaval and religious discrimination, Lamser contributed to sociology through his work at the Research Institute of Sugar Beet in Semčice and later at the Research Institute of Construction and Architecture. His academic career was hindered by his apolitical stance and religious beliefs, but he found opportunities during the political thaw of the 1960s, becoming a key figure in the development of empirical research methodologies in Czechoslovak sociology. His publications, such as "Foundations of Sociological Research" and "Statistics for Sociologists," were foundational texts for a generation of sociologists. However, his career and contributions were cut short by the political normalization of the 1970s, leading to his emigration to West Germany after signing Charter 77.
