Summary/Abstract: Research on memory and its sites has transformed the study of history and over time has established itself in the scientific environment. In this paper we have applied Nora’s sites of memory concept, which is to some extent linked to the national framework, to Czech society. Sites of memory reflect the past and testify to society’s relationship to history; as clearly exposed objects, they are an immediate and valuable source for thinking about collective memory, and at the same time they are its direct actors. The paper focuses on Czech manifestations of historical consciousness in relation to four German sites of memory in the Brno region. Memory is explored through sites of memory, i.e. commemoration in public space. The study analyses the causes, highlights the initiatives, and the relations between majority and minority that are intertwined in the creation and preservation of minority sites of memory.
