Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to present the phenomenon of the Commission of National Education (Pol.Komisja Edukacji Narodowej, KEN) and its work on education reform through the prism of su-pervision and control over schools. Administrative and pedagogical supervision and control werean important aspect of the functioning of the school system created by KEN. Their supervisionwas hierarchical – higher levels of education monitored schools at lower levels. The most impor-tant instrument of supervision exercised by the Main Schools on behalf of the Commission ofNational Education towards schools were annual general visits carried out by professors of theMain Schools, including trusted faculty rectors. To complement the general visits and employthe second instrument of supervision exercised by the Main Schools, reports on teaching andsupervisory activities were sent at least every six months by faculty and sub-faculty schools. Thearticle answers the question of what confirms the high effectiveness and efficiency of supervisionand control over schools during the period of KEN activity.
