Summary/Abstract: Shaping of the contemporary individual and collective identity is a constitutive element of in- tangible cultural heritage. The bobbin lace-making allowed the inhabitants of the city of Kraków to adopt a new identity as a tradition related, in their opinion, to the culture of the Polish countryside. The article depicts certain practices that lace-makers—depositaries of Kraków’s bobbin lace, which became part of the national list of intangible cultural heritage in 2016—uphold as an expression of their rural identity. The tradition of making this element is an expression of the search for a new iden- tity, which is also related to the contemporary rural and suburban environment. Theses given in the text revolve around the research conducted using participant observation and the art-based method.
