Summary/Abstract: Universities take institutional measures to reduce academic fraud. Academic fraud can be reduced by strict supervision and the application of unequivocal sanctions. However, we can strengthen the culture of ethics and academic integrity by appealing to complementary measures, for example, appealing to morality and thereby diminishing the way in which unethical behaviors are cognitively rationalized. Reminding of moral norms can induce honest behavior (at least for a short time). The present study includes a theoretical synthesis of the research coordinated by Dan Ariely regarding cheating and the verification of his theory in the Romanian academic context.
