Summary/Abstract: This paper is intended to provide the reader with the circumstances of the beginnings and the course and effects of the usurpation of Lucius Domitius Alexander that took place between 308–310/311 AD. Based on an analysis of ancient sources and the findings of modern researchers it will attempt to determine the political and military significance of both the usurpation itself and areas of the diocese of Africa in the structure of the Roman Empire.
