Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to compare two of the longest passages about the death of Medusa at hands of Perseus in the Latin literature: in Ovid’s Metamorphoses and Lucan’s Civil War. The article shows a correspondence between the image of Perseus and (especially) Medusa in both ancient texts. The main difference is a role of those heroes in discussed epic poems: Gorgon in the Methamorphoses is an valuable character because of its transformation (from a beautiful maiden into a monster), in The Civil War the story about origins of snakes in Libya and the political context connected with historical events are more important.
