Summary/Abstract: Greece is currently undergoing a profound and multi-year economic and social transformation. This process is supported by and defined through a troika of international creditors that monitor compliance with the country’s reform obligations. The author seeks to shed light on the social consequences, institutional achievements and economic deficits characterizing this unprecedented transformation process. The challenges are numerous and success is frequently subject to fragile institutional conditions and political instability. The contribution highlights how two different narratives about the crisis in Greece and its reform perspectives currently characterize the public debate in the country. The struggle between the ‚old Greece’ and the ‚new Hellas’ is in full swing and its outcome will ultimately determine which direction the country and its citizens will take in the coming years.
