Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the question how the political centres of the eleventh-century Central Europe tried to use the geographic movement of individuals for their own purposes. The study focuses on the case of Bruno of Augsburg who visited the royal court of Stephen I of Hungary twice between 1003 and 1007. The analysis pays special attention to the context of the relevant passages in the sources, the image of Stephen I in the Chronicon of Thietmar, and the political use of Bruno’s travels.
