Summary/Abstract: The subject of the analysis performed in this paper are two anthologies of poetry compiled by the interpreter and literature researcher Katarina Šalamun-Biedrzycka. There are both bilingual – Polish‑ Slovenian. While the former (Silver and moss / Mah in silver) covers Slovenian poetry, the latter (Dotik Duha / Touched by the spirit) is comprised of the 20th-century Polish poetry. Through the selection of texts the author of the anthologies expressed her own vision of poetry understood as “a communication of consciousness”. Thus, she put herself in a polemical position against the canons of poetry embedded in Poland and Slovenia. The author of this paper highlights the similarities between the vision of literature articulated by Šalamun-Biedrzycka and the category of “wczucie” (empathy, German Einfühlung) as proposed by the German philosopher Edith Stein. Last but not least, he argues that the emphasized significance of literature as a medium of interpersonal closeness is an expression of universalistic consciousness of the author of the anthologies.
