Summary/Abstract: Suicide is a profound and complex societal issue that involves the intentional act of ending one's own life. It represents a critical public health concern with a significant global impact, leading to the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives annually. The World Health Organization identifies suicide as a major contributor to mortality, ranking it as the fourth leading cause of death among 15-29-year-olds. Beyond its psychological dimensions, research has expanded to explore the intricate interplay of biological markers, particularly inflammatory processes, in understanding and addressing this multifaceted problem. The psychosocial determinants of suicide are well-documented, yet the exploration of biological factors, including neuroinflammation and cytokine involvement, provides additional layers to the understanding of this complex phenomenon. As a major challenge for mental health, suicide demands ongoing research efforts to unravel its complexities and develop effective prevention measures.
