Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the results of research conducted on a sample of 30 respondents from the East who learn Polish as a foreign language. The research aims at determining the respondents’ opinions on the special didactic procedure, which is teaching the second language in contrast to the learners’ first language. The paper demonstrates the findings about the respondents’ actual and declared levels of proficiency, the correspondence between languages (the degree of correspondence according to the respondents), and also the advantages and possible problems with teaching foreign languages with the use of the contrastive approach.
