Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the issue of solidarity, which is briefly discussed from historical, political, sociological, formal, and legal perspectives. The described attitude is undoubtedly related to human dignity, subjectivity, and responsibility for another person. Since school (as an institution and a community) has an impact on the development of a student’s identity, it is also a place where relationships are born, and Polish language lessons are a space for dialogue and reflection on universal problems, the author conducted a diagnostic survey among primary school students on the topic of solidarity and described its results and drew conclusions. After reading a poem referring to the attitude discussed here, the respondents presented, among others, their own understanding of the concept of solidarity. They determined what values it may be associated with and gave their opinion on the possible role of literature in awakening the need for solidarity. They also commented on the potential benefits of discussing cultural texts during Polish language lessons, which is a voice in the discussion on this type of issue.
