Summary/Abstract: The article seeks for a reconstruction of turning points in the relationships of teenagers from a disadvantaged neighborhood (Snyder, Angus, & Sutherland-Smith, 2002) with local deviant groups, collected in the course of a longitudinal qualitative study (Holland, Thomson, & Henderson, 2004) that had been conducted with several today – adult men who used to live in one of such neighborhoods in Łódź. The study uncovers an intersubjective perspective on deviant activities of local peer groups and three variants of turning points in the actors’ relations with such groups („rebounding”; „standing up for yourself”; joining an alternative reference group) together with the properties of the context that encourage them. Their presentation constitutes the core of the article and contribute to both the discourse on a desistance from crime and the development of strength-based social rehabilitation in a local community.
