Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyze the relationship between demographic characteristics and built-up land for the area of Podravina around Koprivnica and the area of the island of Krk for two periods of time (1980 – 1981 and 2018 - 2021). These areas were selected in order to compare the results of two areas that differ in terms of spatial arrangement, characteristics of demographic trends in the number of inhabitants, and the share and distribution of built-up land. A linear regression analysis was used to compare the results. Data related to built-up land were obtained using the CORINE Land Cover databases for 1980 and 2018, while census data for the period 1981 - 2021 were obtained from the National Bureau of Statistics. The results of the research showed that with an increase in the number of inhabitants, the area of built-up land also increases, while with a decrease in the number of inhabitants, the area of built-up land decreases. Thus, places with more inhabitants have a larger built-up area, and places with fewer inhabitants have a smaller built-up area. This was confirmed in the paper on several examples for both observed areas and in both observed time units. In the end, one can conclude that when comparing the results obtained by linear regression analysis, the interrelationships of the observed variables - the number of inhabitants and the area of built-up land - were explained in more detail, and, regardless of the different characteristics of the observed areas, a strong connection in a positive direction was established in both time units, whereby the observed occurrence differs from casual one.
