Summary/Abstract: The theological conflict between the early Church and Judaism arises from the differing views on how righteousness before God is attained: either through faith or through the Law. In addressing the Jew who rejects faith in Christ based on adherence to the Law of righteousness, the apostle Paul invokes a provocative Old Testament biblical concept, namely the righteousness of God outside the Law, with the aim of justifying the New Testament theological concept of righteousness outside the Law through faith in Christ. This article delves into Paul's discourse in Romans 9 to answer the following questions: What does righteousness outside the Law consist of? Why does Paul employ this concept? To what extent does this concept of righteousness serve as a model for humanity? A careful analysis of the Old Testament context referenced in Romans 9 indicates that righteousness outside the Law actually represents a righteousness above the Law.
