Summary/Abstract: The mission that Bishop Nicolae Ivan undertook, namely to pastor a newly established diocese in a country ravaged by a world war, in a multiethnic and multi-denominational region, was a task that had great chances to fail. However, the period in which God made Bishop Nicolae worthy to be a bishop in Cluj proved to be a providential one. No one hoped that in just 15 years, a heavily Hungarianized city like Cluj would have an imposing cathedral right in the middle of the city, a renowned theological academy and illustrious professors, a respectable episcopal see and especially devout and sacrificial believers. For the Orthodox parishes in this part of the country, much tried during the years of foreign occupation, Bishop Nicolae Ivan was a „guiding beacon”. All the more so for the believers and priests from the Unguraș Archdiocese, and from all the Sălăjene counties, who for the first time in their history, had a devoted bishop and who understood their pains and trials.
