Summary/Abstract: The aim of this systematic review is to synthesize and analyze urban simulated environments and smart city governance integrating cognitive automation and data-driven planning technologies, machine learning and simulation modeling algorithms, and algorithm-driven sensing and Internet of Things-based connected devices. A quantitative literature review of ProQuest, Scopus, and the Web of Science was carried out throughout March 2023, with search terms including “augmented reality-powered immersive spaces and 3D digital environments” + “virtual data modeling and geospatial mapping tools,” “data-driven Internet of Things and sustainable urban computing systems,” and “digital twin simulation and extended reality technologies.” As research published in 2022 and 2023 was inspected, only 147 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria, and 22 mainly empirical sources were selected. Data visualization tools: Dimensions (bibliometric mapping) and VOSviewer (layout algorithms). Reporting quality assessment tool: PRISMA. Methodological quality assessment tools include: AXIS, Distiller SR, ROBIS, and SRDR.
