Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine smart city digital twins, geospatial analytics and virtual simulation modeling tools, and Internet of Things connected sensors optimizing virtual urban environments. Throughout March 2023, a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases was performed, with search terms including “virtual urban environments and cognitive smart cities” + “3D urban modeling and blockchain-based digital twin management tools,” “real-time Internet of Things and remote sensing data,” and “spatial computing and predictive control algorithms.” As research published in 2022 and 2023 was inspected, only 155 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria, and 23 mainly empirical sources were selected. Data visualization tools: Dimensions (bibliometric mapping) and VOSviewer (layout algorithms). Reporting quality assessment tool: PRISMA. Methodological quality assessment tools include: AXIS, Dedoose, MMAT, and SRDR.
