Summary/Abstract: Saint Gregory Palamas, was the providential man of God, chosen to clarify the ambiguities that appeared in the 14th century, regarding the role of philosophy, and to condemn the unjust interference of it in the theology, going beyond the limit of an „adjuvant instrument” in the terminology, used by the Fathers of the Church, and trying to explain the uncreated realities. Being a well-educated man, Saint Gregory Palamas make in his writings a distinction between theology (θεολογία) și theoptia (θεοπτία), as theology in his times was understood more as an abstract reality, separated from the concrete spiritual life. He, also, shows that the source of theology is theoptia, the vision of God, which is gained through asceticism, the life of prayer, and the search for the praise of God and His will. The Palamite corpus offers us a multitude of biblical interpretations relating to the errors of the ‘theologians’ who don’t care to respect the basic spiritual requirements, in an attempt to express the mysteries of faith. These are presented in comparison with the true theology formulated and expressed by the Saints of God.
