Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses Polnische Sprach⸗Kunst (1734), a grammar of Polish written by Jerzy Schlag, a German who taught Polish in Silesia. Schlag’s handbook stands out among the grammars of the time: the author has intentionally foregone grammar terminology and departed from the traditional Latin-based language description. The article presents Schlag’s innovative description of the language system, and verifies the extent to which the author actually managed to follow his intention of foregoing grammar terminology
