Summary/Abstract: There are numerous studies on the perception while listening to music in the general education school, both in the Bulgarian pedagogical tradition and around the world. A large number of authors share the idea that the purpose of school education in music is training individuals with a rich general musical culture who will be part of the future audience in concert halls. The present music curriculum for the 4th grade in our country sets requirements for the acquisition of certain knowledge and the development of musical performance skills, and analytical and social competencies of the children. Among them are listening skills and perceiving music as paramount activity. The present study researches the six teaching sets created by six authors' teams and all approved by The Ministry of Education and Science. The methods used are classification, comparison, analysis and expert evaluation of the perception tasks. The main findings show a variety of tasks of varying complexity related to plenty of goals like expanding students' knowledge in the field of musical expressive means, development of emotional empathy, imagination, abstract thinking, and creative approach, as well as connections with other school subjects, teamwork skills, etc. More of the tasks can be fulfilled by children, but others are neither proper nor easy to be realized at that age. The main conclusion is if the tasks set on the perception of the selected examples from the classical music literature can be successfully fulfilled by children, it will be a good foundation to prepare fourth graders to get involved in live musical practice, i.e. attending classical concerts performed by all kinds of instrumental and vocal ensembles with programs of various genres.
