Summary/Abstract: This study will be carried out in two stages, in order to better identify the contribution of Saint Gregory Palamas to the development of a theology of prayer. The starting point is a presentation of Hesychast prayer methods as described by certain Fathers and Doctors of the Church prior to Palamas. In this way, we clarify Palamas' place in the context of his time, which was marked by numerous controversies surrounding Hesychast practices. Although reflection on Hesychast prayer and the psycho-physical method it requires began to appear and develop, in writing, as early as the 4th - 5th centuries, when Christian monasticism began to flourish, Saint Gregory Palamas was the first to structure and systematize it. Through his approach to the question of prayer, Palamas succeeded in theologically rehabilitating and defining the role of the body and its participation in the action of deifying the human person through prayer. The second part of our work is an analysis of Palamite texts on prayer and the psycho-physical method, starting with a few texts from the Triads. Finally, this presentation will put the Palamite theology of prayer into perspective: rehabilitation of the human body, deification of man through prayer, synthesis of the theology of the Church Fathers.
