Summary/Abstract: The present study is an attempt to highlight the therapeutic value of prayer on the soul, but also on the body. Also, this material is the beginning of my doctoral research, research focused on the spiritual component in addiction therapy, a topic in which prayer will be one of the main therapeutic means. In compiling this study, I have positioned myself in two directions, the scientific and the traditional-Orthodox, trying to bridge the gap between the two positions to strengthen the idea of the beneficial effects of spiritual practices on man as a whole. I would also like to make a fundamental distinction between the spiritual exercises that are the subject of scientific research - mostly from Far Eastern traditions - and those considered by philocal parents as the only authentic practices for spiritual life, such as Christian prayer.
