Summary/Abstract: The urbanization process in Turkey has been accelerating and expanding since the 1950s under the determinants of many factors, especially the dissolution of rural areas and industrialization. The opening of state or foundation universities has also accelerated urbanization since the 2000s. Urbanization is a process in which significant changes occur in the economic and social structure. However, what stands out in developing countries, and in Turkey in particular, is population growth. This increase is observed in many cities. Although more than half its population resides in rural areas, Bartın is one of the settlements where urbanization is observed, with rapid population growth in its center. In this context, the research focuses on urbanization and the consequences of urbanization after the establishment of Bartın University in 2008. The study's main purpose is to reveal the different dimensions of the growth in the city center and the opinions of the local people in the neighborhoods and villages directly affected by the development. The fact that urbanization in Bartın has not been addressed from these perspectives before increases the belief that the study fills a gap in the relevant literature and makes the research important. The quantitative method was adopted in the study. A questionnaire was used as a data collection technique. A structured questionnaire consisting of closed-ended questions was created. This form reached a sample of 400 people face-to-face and online. Then, the data obtained were analyzed through descriptive statistics and transferred to tables. In this way, a general framework regarding the urbanization observed in Bartın was put forward.
