Camões’ Authority in Polish Romantic Literature

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the text is to present what Polish Romantic authors regarded Camões as and what this Portuguese poet’s popularity stems from. There is no doubt that Camões was valued above all as a literary and aesthetic authority (as the master of national epic), but also an individual with an unusual biography of a poète maudit. It seems that both variants of Camões’ literary reputation reveal the same aspect of becoming a highly regarded figure as a transmitter of domestic and national content.
