Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the global strategic trends today and in the medium term as well as on their effects and implications in relation to the security environment. The trends are mainly associated with demographics, environment, globalisation and the new world order, technological development, terrorism and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, resources and energy security. Their effects on the civil system, economic system, security environment, maritime environment and military environment are analysed. In conclusion, it is shown that the response to security threats, including the provisions relating to the use of force, should be adapted to the new realities.
