Summary/Abstract: This article aims to analyze the contemporary manifestation of civil society in Bulgaria through the prism of political participation and apathy among citizens. For this purpose, the concept of civil society and the need for active political citizens have been examined successively; an analysis of the political participation of Bulgarian citizens was made, through a study of electoral activity, membership in political parties and their participation in the electoral process as advocates; finally, the main reasons for the relatively high levels of political apathy and anomie among Bulgarian society, in relation to the role of political parties, are presented.
